It’s been two month since I made the decision to jump into the deep end and learn the piano. It’s been an uphill battle to say the least, but a fun process never the less. I have had midi controllers laying around my studio for years and I haven’t really been using them much; maybe for the odd drum program or synth program, but that’s it. A couple months ago I got curious about what it would be like to actually play the piano.
The inspiration came about as a result of having learned the ukulele fairly quickly, so I thought why not try incorporating other sounds in my solo act. For years I was considering using a midi bass to get other sounds, but I just didn’t get around to it. So I tried my hand at a keyboard synthesizer instead. The wealth of sounds at my finger tips were inspiring and I realized I could really enhance my music by playing piano, not only in the studio, but also on stage.
Being able to play both the bass and piano at the same time was my goal. I tried it at a couple of local gigs and people seem to appreciate it, so I decided to take it seriously and go down the rabbit hole of piano studies. Where it will lead, no one knows, but I am curious to find out. Let’s do this!
